I am Devyani Irani. As the name suggests, this is a blog about the English Language. Recently, I was approached by a friend, Mrs. Sangeeta Shirname, who works for an NGO, Inseed. They had a project intended to supplement learning, at a school in a nearby slum, run by a charitable trust working for education of slum children. They wanted volunteers to teach English, among other subjects like Maths and Science. It is a sort of pilot attempt and will grow as new volunteers join in.
I volunteered for the English subject. It was decided at the outset that we would not be covering the school syllabus, but instead would work on improving the pronunciations, vocabulary and grammar of the students.
